NZ football is not what the doctor ordered
FOOTBALL: Wellington Phoenix part-owner Dr Gareth Morgan will contribute $NZ5million to help football improve in the country.
The offer comes with conditions, however. Dr Morgan wants the New Zealand government to chip in $10 million, and also wants NZ Football to sack its current board.
In a radio interview yesterday, Dr Morgan said the board was accountable for the country's loss in this month's World Cup playoff matches against Mexico, describing the build-up to the two games as "chaos".
"There have been some shocking organisational lapses off the field," Dr Morgan (pictured) said. "Quite frankly, the competence level in the organisation of the sport is abysmal."
He also said all players throughout the country should be coached to play "tap-and-go possession-based football".
