No sign of Bennell for Dockers just yet

HARLEY Bennell is still months away from making a debut in Fremantle colours following his latest injury setback.

The Dockers confirmed on Monday night that Bennell was eight to 10 weeks away from returning to action after injuring his left calf at a training session last Tuesday.

Scans taken later that day confirmed a minor tear in the calf that has plagued Bennell since moving west.

But further assessment and scans showed that the diagnosis was even more severe than first thought.

"Upon further assessment and following the latest scans, we were advised that the extent of the calf injury was more severe than the initial diagnosis last week," Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond said.

"It is disappointing for Harley and the club, particularly given that he was on the verge of a return to full training with the playing group and back out playing.

"Given his outstanding attitude and approach to injury rehabilitation since he has been at Fremantle, Harley and the club are now planning for him to be available for selection within eight to 10 weeks."

The Dockers were initially aiming for Bennell to debut between Rounds 4 and 6 after failing to play a game in 2016.

He was traded from Gold Coast with pick 22 for picks 16 and 35 during the 2015 trade period.

Bennell has played 81 career games since being drafted with pick 2 in the 2010 national draft.
