NiE Read a Story
APN's Newspapers in Education is promoting the importance and joys of reading through its Read-a-Story special.
This NiExtension will provide readers with a five chapter fiction -One Giant Leap - that focuses on literacy skills while enjoying the experience of reading.
The story will be published in your local APN's daily newspaper for five weekdays commencing Monday October 19 and concluding Friday October 23.
As the tale unfolds each day, readers will be guided through a variety of ways to extract meaning from the text with a word bank and let's talk section.
Online resources and activities will also be included to enhance and support the series.
With newspapers supplied to schools each day, this special is an excellent resource for shared reading in the classroom and is a way of teaching students how to use language while having fun reading. The story should appeal to its audience with relevant topics and ideas being involved, providing a platform for classroom discussions.
THE STORY
One Giant Leap
It seemed so far away. I wasn't sure I could make it. If I didn't, it was a long way down- 52 floors in fact. Peering over the edge I could see the cars below. They looked like ants scurrying around the busy streets of the city.
I took a deep breath. I had to do it.
This is a story as told by Sina a fifteen year olds adventure into the unknown. Join her and her friends as they face the mammoth task of saving earth.
