HERE'S the first look at Maserati's new Quattroporte.
It will make its world debut at the North American International Automobile Show in Detroit on January 14 before arriving in Australia in the third quarter of 2013, when local specifications and prices will be announced.
This all-new Quattroporte sparks the beginning of a bold plan for the Italian brand.
Maserati is about to expand into new genres, including a medium size performance saloon and a performance SUV.
The marque wants to reach global sales of 50,000 by 2015 - Australia and New Zealand are expected to contribute 1500 units each year.
"Maserati stands today at the edge of an unparalleled strategic and industrial growth that will see our presence in the world rise to 50,000 units a year by 2015,"Maserati CEO Harald Wester said.
"This growth is a challenge for which Maserati has carefully prepared itself and that we all welcome with anticipation.
"It is a growth based on those values of style, elegance, quality, performance for which Maserati has been always recognised and praised in almost 100 years of history. This exciting progression will make the new Maserati a true global player with two new production sites in two different continents and a heart solidly planted in Modena, Italy, where our roots are.
"It is a growth that will be based on three new models entering two new segments of the automobile market - and it starts with the all-new 2013 Maserati Quattroporte."
Maserati has maintained many of the existing components with the new Quattroporte, including the front grille, side vents and the triangular C-pillar.
But changes include a belt line along the side of the car.
The engines will be produced at the Ferrari plant in Maranello.
