New library opened
ON Tuesday, April 5, Member for Blair Shayne Neumann opened Coominya State School's new library.
“How many of you have seen $925,000?” was Mr Neumann's opening question to the students at the recent ceremony.
Mr Neumann reminded the community of the Government's commitment to education.
The library was constructed under the Building the Education Revolution initiative.
The ceremony was opened by indigenous elder Aunty Angela and finished with a vote of thanks from the school leaders, Catherine Lunn and Skye MacKay.
The building was designed by former staff and parents including former Principal Mark Gibson and former P&C President, Jodie Inger who were both present at the opening.
Part of the original intent of the design was to provide a meeting space for community activities.
Whilst some further funds need to be found to realise that vision, all who attended were well pleased with the finished result.
Principal Richard Amos acknowledged the generous donation of the Harley family from the Blue Teapot Café.
Mr Amos announced that the $1000 donation would be spent on reading books for students.
Somerset Regional Councillor Noel Kammholz commented on the high quality of the building.
The Department of Education worked hard to ensure that local builders and suppliers were contracted, where possible, to work on the project.
