New Jersey race fails to make grand prix list

AAP

DESPITE being listed on a draft schedule that was released in September, New Jersey, Mexico and South Korea were all left off the official 19-race Formula 1 calendar for 2014 unveiled yesterday.

The New Jersey race, with the Manhattan skyline (pictured) as a backdrop, has now been postponed for two consecutive years, while South Korea appears to be lost to the F1 circuit.

Mexico, which last hosted a race in 1992, is expected to reappear in 2015. Its allocated date in November had to be postponed after it became clear organisers did not have enough time to refurbish the track in Mexico City. One totally new race has been included on the schedule, in the Russian city of Sochi, while the Austrian Grand Prix returns for the first time since 2002.

The championship will start with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 16, and finish in Abu Dhabi on November 23.
