New hub is great move

MORE than 30,000 businesses operate on the Sunshine Coast, but there's a bizarre lack of infrastructure to support collaboration.

That's why I'm really excited to hear that a coworking space has opened in Maroochydore's city heart.

Describing itself as a "chic new business hub", Share Space on Monday opened the doors to its office, located just a stone's throw from Ocean St.

I'm excited about this for a few reasons.

Firstly, the hosts in some of the best co-working spaces I've been to, like The Hub Melbourne, keep a keen eye on who uses the space and introduce people they think will get along in a professional way.

It's a great way to foster collaboration.

Co-working spaces can also support clusters of business people who would otherwise work on their own. We all know how dreary that can be. The first thing sole traders who use these spaces will tell you is they love being able to get out of the house.

The spaces are typically open plan, filled with natural light and plants. Hosts often organise helpful seminars or events.

I don't know yet how the people behind Share Space will run it, but I'm really happy they're giving it a go.

Here's to more vibrant co-working spaces springing up on the Coast.

Launch party at 5.30pm on Friday, March 20. Corner of Beach Rd and Duporth Ave, Maroochydore
