New fitness centre opens to public

STUDENTS and community alike will benefit from the opening of the UQ Fitness and Aquatic Centre and Gatton War Memorial Pool in the first week of July.

UQ Sport Venue Operations Manager, Wade Hurst said the facility included a 25 metre, six lane heated pool, new gym and cardio area, barbecue and seating area, grassed surrounds and change rooms.

“The facility will be open to UQ students and staff but also to the local community and we would encourage everyone to come and visit the facility,” he said.

“We will be offering memberships and casual entry options.

“We will also have swimming programs on offer including aqua fitness and squad training and hopefully in the near future, Learn to Swim lessons.

“I plan for the facility to become a destination for people to exercise and be healthy but also as a place where people can come along and hang out with friends and family and enjoy what the facility has to offer.”
