National food chains competing for highway location

A FEW national retailers are eyeing off a high-traffic business space in the Plainland Crossing Precinct.

The Mobil Service Centre, which is on the corner of the Warrego Highway and Laidley Plainland Road, is under construction and includes an attached building suited to a food vendor.

LJ Hooker Toowoomba’s Mike Stewart said it was too early to confirm which business would fill the commercial space.

“It’s a fluid situation at the moment – I have a couple of different things going on down there,” Mr Stewart said.

“We are in discussions with probably three national food operators, not just for that space but for some others (in the precinct).”

He said the interested parties comprised of a “combination of styles and types”.

He said the area connected to the Mobil service station was just one of several sites his team was developing.

“There’s a site behind (the Mobil), which has two sites for quick-service restaurants,” Mr Stewart said.

“And there is a bulky goods proposition there – we are looking at a whole range of development options.”

Mr Stewart said he could not comment on the criteria the ideal vendor would fit.

“I can’t tell you that – it would be a giveaway,” he said.

While it was rumoured a second Coffee Club chain would occupy a site across from the already existing cafe, the restaurant told the Gatton Star in June that only “discussions were taking place”.
