Murder case deepens

A MAN accused of murdering a woman in her Esk home has been remanded in custody.

Kylie Hitchen, 35, was found lying in a “pool of blood” at her home in Creek Street, Esk, about 60km north-west of Ipswich after residents raised concerns for her welfare.

It is believed police will allege her throat was slit after she was attacked with a knife.

Ronald Michael Craig, who lived with Hitchen, was extradited from Lismore Local Court earlier this week to Ipswich to face a charge of murder.

Tweed-Byron Local Area Command crime manager Detective Inspector Shane Diehm said Mr Craig was arrested in Brunswick Heads after he phoned local police.

Mr Craig, 46, appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday wearing a brown tracksuit jumper and pants and sat passively during the brief mention.

But as the tall and solidly-built defendant was led away he called out to a blonde woman sitting in the public gallery.

“Love you,” Mr Craig said.

“Don't forget to get all the tools out of the back shed.

“Try and sell the car.”

No application for bail was made and Mr Craig was remanded in custody.
