UPDATE 4.50PM: Two children and their mothers were taken to hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Harristown that left debris strewn across a busy intersection.

One girl, 5, was attended to at the scene for a deep cut to her head and taken to Toowoomba Hospital with her mother following the crash at the corner of South St and Drayton Rd about 3.20pm.

Another child and their mother, who had been travelling in another vehicle, were taken to hospital.

The child suffered a minor abrasion on their nose while the mother had a foot injury.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the collision, the cause of which is under investigation by police.

Traffic congestion built quickly around the area with emergency services directing traffic away from the incident.

4.15PM: Witnesses to a two-vehicle crash in Harristown were treated for shock as paramedics attended to a young child involved in the incident.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Anzac Ave station officer Rob Andrews said the vehicles involved had been damaged in the collision at the corner of South St and Drayton Rd about 3.20pm.

He said a young child had been treated by paramedics and taken to Toowoomba Hospital from the crash which is under investigation.

"There were multiple injuries at this particular crash site (and) they have been taken care of by the Queensland Ambulance Service," Mr Andrews said.

"Some people that witnessed the crash were experiencing some high levels of shock as well.

"At this stage the crash will be investigated by the Queensland Police Service and (the cause) will be determined.

"It was a decent impact and those investigations will be continuing into the cause of the crash.

"It's a timely reminder to remind everyone to stay safe out there and drive to the conditions."
