Jarrod Bleijie accused of cancelling Christmas for bikies

THE families of outlaw motorcycle gang members in Gladstone fear their Christmases could be ruined by over-zealous legislation.

And Gladstone MP Liz Cunningham has gone into bat for them, asking Attorney General Jarrod Bleijie how the families of club members could manage celebrations such as Christmas, without breaking new laws forbidding member association.

"How do families whose fathers, mothers or other immediate family members are members of targeted associations manage attendance at family functions such as weddings, Christmas and the like where the attendance of association members would be expected?" Mrs Cunningham asked.

"And how do other family members practically manage these circumstances?"

Her question was ruled out of order for being hypothetical in nature, but according to Mrs Cunningham the concern is very real.

"I have had several wives of club members speak to me," Mrs Cunningham told The Observer.

"They were concerned about how the family will manage family celebrations."

Mrs Cunningham recently released private transcripts of evidence relating to Acting Crime and Misconduct Commission chair Dr Ken Levy regarding whether or not he took direction from the government in writing an opinion piece on bikie laws.

Mr Bleijie blasted the release of the documents, accusing the PCMC of conducting a witch hunt and not giving Dr Levy a chance to respond to the allegations before the transcripts were released.
