Mother granted bail after spending 42 days in jail

A GYMPIE mother of three who has been behind bars for more than a month has been granted bail.

Sue-Ellen Louise Clements, 46, appeared at Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday.

The court heard she had been charged with stalking stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred in May.

The court also heard she had been in jail for 42 days and had never been jailed before.

Justice James Douglas said Ms Clements and a man allegedly threatened a person who could be a potential witness in another matter.

Justice Douglas said Ms Clements also faced drug-related charges, including producing and possessing drugs, and that allegedly committing these breached bail she was on at the time.

He said this, and allegations that she threatened someone, went against her.

Justice Douglas said the main issue in Ms Clements's alleged offending was her consistent problem with drugs, stemming from a "tragic background".

Ms Clements has three children who are dependent on her, the court heard.

"And in those circumstances, Ms Clements, I hope that that will provide some incentive to you to stay out of trouble and to try to reform yourself as you propose," Justice Douglas said.

"The hope is that because of your responsibilities to your children and your wish I hope to avoid further incarceration that you will adhere strictly to these conditions, which I propose to order."

He said it was up to the mother to conform to her bail conditions.

Justice Douglas also said the case was strong against Ms Clements for her alleged drug offending, but that the case against her alleged stalking offence might not be as strong.
