Mitre 10 lends a hand

STORE owners of Gatton Plaza Mitre 10, Derek and Christine Pingel, have kindly co-ordinated the donation of 50 barbecues and 40 outdoor dining tables to the Lockyer Valley flood victims who are still living in temporary accommodation.

Residents in Grantham, Helidon, Murphys Creek, Postman's Ridge, Withcott and surrounding districts who have been affected by the floods have been forced to live in alternative temporary accommodation and have found family meals a little challenging.

The barbecues and dining tables will provide some comfort as they wait for alternative living arrangements or their homes to be repaired.

Derek and Christine, who have owned the Gatton Plaza store since 1991 said the communities literally have nothing.

“We noticed that many were struggling to cook their own meals and create a normal living environment,” they said.

“It could be many months before these people get their homes back and this will help the community in a small way to get back on its feet.”

This community initiative by Gatton Plaza Mitre 10 is one of many donations and fund-raisers organised by Mitre 10 owners across the country to help people affected by the disastrous floods in Queensland and Victoria.
