Man spends nervous night at Dam

A MAN who went missing during a kayaking trip to Wivenhoe Dam was forced to spend the night on the banks of the dam before he was found early the next morning.

The 32-year-old man and his dog went out on a four metre kayak and had not been heard from since 2pm Wednesday.

It was believed the man was not an experience kayaker and was not carrying adequate equipment for overnight weather conditions.

After the initial search by family failed to find him, police co-ordinated a search at first light Thursday morning with assistance from water police, SES staff, volunteers marine vessels and a rescue 500 helicopter

The man was spotted by the helicopter and did not require medical treatment.

Police said the man had been unable to find his way back to his starting point before nightfall and was forced to sit the night out after paddling to the nearest bank.
