Minor earthquake hits south west Queensland

YOU may have felt a slight tremor last night and that's because an earthquake was recorded south-west of Mitchell.

At 7.26pm, a small 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck the area.

On the Richter magnitude scale the earthquake would be classed as being minor; meaning it would only be felt by some people with no damage to buildings.

For all recent earthquake recordings check out Geoscience Australia's website at www.ga.gov.au/earthquakes/initRecentQuakes.do.

To find out why earthquakes occur in this region and if we're likely to receive any more, check out Tuesday's edition of the Western Star.
