Mike Baird in tears upon seeing daughter in wedding dress

TOUCHING photographs have emerged of former NSW Premier Mike Baird embracing his daughter Laura on her wedding day.

Woonona photographer James Day captured the proud father break down in tears moments before walking his eldest daughter down the aisle at St Matthew's Anglican Church in Manlyn Saturday.Woonona photographer James Day captured the proud father break down in tears moments before walking his eldest daughter down the aisle at St Matthew's Anglican Church in Manlyn Saturday.

"Mike (Laura's dad and our ex-premier of NSW) was about to see his daughter after she had put her wedding dress on," Mr Day wrote on his Facebook page.

"Instantly Mike started tearing up and I was fortunate to witness this incredible moment.

"Sometimes we just need to take a moment and realise how incredible life is as it unfolds in front of us."

The doting dad resigned from politics last year saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.

In January he took to Facebook to announce his daughter's engagement, gushing that it felt like "only yesterday I was cradling Laura in my arms".

"A reminder for all that time as a parent just goes too quickly, and every day is one to savour. We love you Laura and are so thrilled for you both," he wrote.

'Levi will make a wonderful addition to our family and, as my son said, he finally gets a brother."

The raw emotion displayed in the photos appeared to cement Mr Baird's legacy as a family man and triggered a call from the public to return to politics.

"Top bloke," wrote Facebook user Morgan Morlo.

"Shame he's not still Premier."
