Meet your new Lockyer Valley Councillor Michael Hagan
NEWLY elected councillor, Michael Hagan has made quite an impact on the people of the Lockyer Valley, for only living here 11 years.
Michael made the move to Queensland in 1977 and hasn’t looked back since.
“I was born in Sydney, but we moved around a lot,” he said.
“Before we settled down here we lived in the old Beaudesert shire.”
Michael moved to the Lockyer Valley in 2005, wherehe “fell in love with the area”.
“I have six children with my wife Debbie, and four still live here in the valley,” he said.
“We stayed because the kids and a lot of our grandkids are here, and we wanted to be a part of the community.”
Michael was a turf farmer for 20 years and prior to the election, he was focused on his Turf Farm, Durban Turf Supplies.
“Before I got into farming I was a golf course superintendent,” he said.
Michael said he was humbled to be elected as councillor.
“I’ve always had a strong interest in politics and I think this role will make me more focused on the area, instead of going home quietly to the farm I will be out in the community more often, which I really look forward too,” he said.
“It’s about the bigger picture of doing what you can, not just as a councillor but as part of the whole council team.
“I just want to just make it a better place, it’s what we should all be trying to do.”
Michael said he was looking forward to getting more into his new role.
“I am ready for the challenging things ahead.”
