McEvoy to pilot Mackintosh in Group 1 at Doomben
CHAMPION jockey Kerrin McEvoy will chase his ninth Group 1 win for the 2016-17 season in Saturday's $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben.
McEvoy will ride Mackintosh for leading trainer Chris Waller after the pair combined with Egg Tart to complete the SA and Queensland Oaks double at the weekend.
McEvoy said Waller had done a massive job with the lightly raced filly who has won her past six starts while her past four wins have come in four different states.
"She's was better again,'' McEvoy told RSN on Sunday.
"It was quite a remarkable win,'' he said.
Despite getting back in the field Egg Tart produced a dazzling turn of foot to score by 1.3 lengths.
"She's got the ability to settle and sprint really quickly, to get herself out of a rearward position and into a dominant one quickly,'' McEvoy added.
"I was pretty confident within two or three strides I was going to win the race, it's a nice attribute to have.
"There is plenty of upside to her.''
Stradbroke hope Mackintosh hasn't raced since finishing 13th behind Stratum Star in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth back in December but is unbeaten at Doomben.
He won the Group 3 Rough Habit and Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes at Doomben last season before finishing down the track in the Group 1 Queensland Derby.
He boasts two wins from two first-up starts including the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes at Randwick back in September.
