Knock earns skipper's praise

TUCABIA-Copmanhurst GI Hotel captain Bob McKenzie hailed Brayden Pardoe as a player of the future after a match-winning performance at the weekend.

The talented all-rounder produced a crucial 25 not out to guide his side to a thrilling victory against Brothers Clocktower Hotel at Ellem Oval on Saturday.

The right-handed batsman showed poise beyond his years to soak up the pressure as he worked the ball into the gaps and frustrated the Brothers attack.

At 7-95 chasing Brothers' 136, the kid dubbed 'Pup' by his teammates strolled to the crease to join Andrew Buchanan for what would be a match-winning partnership.

Both batsmen held their nerve as they picked off the singles with Pardoe also producing some wonderful lofted cover drives to the boundary fence.

"It was close in the end and Brayden and Andrew got us out of trouble," McKenzie said.

"But once again it was scrappy batting from our guys. We shouldn't have got ourselves in that situation but we'll take the points.

"Brayden and Bucky's partnership won us the game. Andrew doesn't get the wraps he deserves and young Brayden, well he's a kid on the go.

"He's got plenty of potential batting and bowling."

Earlier in the day, Brothers were in all sorts of trouble, losing 6-90 until Jake Kroehnert (27) and Jarrad Lynch (46) came together at the crease to steady the ship.

Tucabia opening bowler Chris Adamson bowled a tight line, snaring 2-16 off his eight overs including the prize wicket of Andrew Lancaster trapped in front for a duck.

Matt Pigg continued his form with the ball taking 2-25 while Tom Cootes grabbed the wickets of both the Lynch brothers, Jarrad and Ryan.

Adamson has picked up 15 wickets this season and according to his captain is bowling as well as ever.

"Ado is bowling the best I've seen him for years," McKenzie said.

"He's bowling with plenty of consistency and keeps picking up wickets.

"In fact, all our bowlers are going well as is our fielding. We just need to work on our batting."

Corey Bertalli was the pick of the Brothers bowlers, taking 4-26 with his medium pace.
