McDONALD'S Meteors captain Rhys Martin has been added to the Australian men's national basketball team training camp squad in preparation for the upcoming YouYi Games against China.

The Meteors star playmaker received the call-up to the Golden Star Boomers after a number of guards from the initial squad of 16 withdraw due to injuries and unavailability.

The Boomers training camp will be held in Perth from next Sunday to the following Thursday, with the first game of the YouYi series against China on June 24 in Perth.

The 25-year-old guard is going into his second QBL season with the Meteors and is excited about receiving the national call-up.

“It was definitely a bit of a shock but I'm thankful for the opportunity to attend the Golden Stars Boomers training camp.” Martin said.

Mackay Basketball general manager Joel Khalu said this weekend's QBL road games would be more of a challenge for the Meteors without Martin. “But were definitely happy for him and we are extremely confident in our team still getting the job done.”

The Meteors play the Mountaineers in Toowoomba Saturday night, before facing the Northside Wizards in Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.
