Marshall set for Sydney return with the Blues

FORMER Wests Tigers captain Benji Marshall could be back playing footy in Sydney as early as next month.

The Blues look set to play a trial against the Waratahs in Sydney in late January, followed by the Hurricanes in Masterton and Chiefs in Rotorua ahead of the opening Super Rugby match against the Highlanders on February 22.

Marshall is likely to be given plenty of game time at fullback to kick off his rugby career, before a widely-expected move to flyhalf.

Blues teammate Chris Noakes is one player keen to wear the No.10 jersey, but said he expected Marshall to provide stiff competition.

"He's very level-headed and a smart rugby league player, obviously, so his ability to pick up the game plan and to control games - he should be able to make a pretty good fist of it wherever he ends up," Noakes said.

"I'd prefer him to be at 15, no doubt, but he could play 10 pretty easily with the skills that he has."
