Man to face parcel bomb charges in Australia

AN ACCUSED parcel bomber who allegedly faked his own death and fled the country in 1998 has been extradited to face charges in Australia.

Roberto Saenz de Heredia, 47, was reportedly trying to re-enter Britain from Spain under a false identity when he was arrested at London's Gatwick Airport in April.

He allegedly sent a parcel bomb to model Simone Cheung almost two decades ago. It exploded and severely injured her boyfriend, Brett Boyd.

Mr Boyd lost a thumb and his left eye in the blast, as well as losing about 80% of vision in his remaining eye.

He and Ms Cheung allegedly owed Mr de Heredia $80,000 for a loan they took out to build a pornography website.

Mr de Heredia was arrested over the bombing and committed to stand trial for attempted murder, but allegedly skipped the country after leaving his blood-smeared car in Kings Cross to fake his own death.

Three weeks before Mr de Heredia allegedly fled to Bali on a false passport, an unknown gunman shot him three times outside his home.

Mr Boyd suicided in 2008.

Ms Cheung, who now goes by the name Simone Farrow, went on to become a Penthouse Pet.

She was arrested in 2009 for allegedly running a Hollywood crime syndicate importing the drug ice into Australia.
