Man surrenders after threat to blow up home

UPDATE: Police have defused a tense situation in which a man threatened to blow himself up with gas.

A man in his 40s rang police after he locked himself in his unit in James St.

The man said he had turned gas on and threatened to commit suicide.

Emergency services attended about 2pm.

Police negotiated with the man who surrendered to police about 2.40pm.

He was taken to hospital.

The incident happened at a block of units and some residents were evacuated on the advice of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services officers.
