A 62-year-old man who stole padlocks and gloves from Bunnings Warehouse was sentenced to 60 hours community service in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this morning.
Brian James Charles pleaded guilty to one count of stealing after police were called to the store at 9.30am on May 17.
Police prosecutor Manon Barwick told the court an employee watched Charles place the padlocks and gloves under his shirt.
He paid for two different items and left, without paying for the padlocks and gloves.
Defence lawyer Mitchell Jamison said his client needed the locks for his toolbox but "had no way of affording them".
Mr Jamison also told the court Charles did not have the means to pay a fine.
Charles previously pleaded guilty to a shop steal offence in 2014.
The total value of the stolen goods, which have since been returned, was $230.
