Man rams home, tries to set on fire after custody release

A MAN released from police custody drove his car into a house and tried to set it on fire in breach of a domestic violence order, police will allege.

The man, 79, will spend the weekend in custody awaiting a hearing in court on allegations he deliberately drove the vehicle into the house in a Western Downs town about 9pm Friday.

Dalby police Sergeant Clint Ryan said the man had been arrested and taken to the watch house about 7pm Friday and was released on a domestic violence order with conditions.

But on his release, police will allege the man re-attended the same address in Ducklo where he drove the vehicle into the house.

It is understood there were people inside the home at the time.

"There is information the man made attempts to set the house on fire," Sgt Ryan said.

"Several witnesses intervened and police arrived, taking the man into custody."

The man will remain in custody over the weekend and has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and breach of a domestic violence order.

Further charges are expected.

The man will appear in the Dalby Magistrates Court on Monday.
