Man pinned after 120kg barbell falls on throat

FOOTAGE has emerged of a second Queensland gym-goer dropping a heavy barbell on their throat during a bench press gone horribly wrong.

The terrifying clip, filmed by CCTV at Genesis gym at Morayfield, north of Brisbane, last Thursday, shows Jason Layt, 28, attempting a 120kg lift when the bar falls and pins him to the bench for an agonising 17 seconds, the Courier Mail reports.

Trapped and fearing for his life, he was only freed when other gym users realised what was going on.

The incident was the second of its kind in five days, after Ben Shaw, 15, of Brisbane, reportedly dropped a Smith machine bar carrying more than his body weight across his throat on Tuesday.
