Mount Isa siege ends, man taken into custody

UPDATE: 

Police have now revoked an emergent situation that had been declared in Mount Isa this afternoon.

The declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made at around 12.45pm this afternoon after police were called to a Short Street address where a man was allegedly armed with a firearm and was making threats to police.  

The situation was resolved shortly before 5pm with officers entering the garage at the address and taking a 21-year-old man into custody.  

No one was injured during the incident and the Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating.

POLICE have declared an emergent situation under the Public Safety and Preservation Act in Mount Isa this afternoon.  

Police were called to an address on Short Street around midday and when police arrived, the man claimed to be armed and made threats to police.  

The area around the residence is cordoned off and specialist police are on the scene.  

The boundaries of Short Street, Simpson Street, George Street and Abel Smith Parade.  

Police are asking anyone who is planning on travelling in the area to avoid it if possible, and anyone who is in the area to stay inside until advised by police.  

The situation is ongoing, there is no further information available at this time.
