Hammer attack charges

A MAN has been charged with using a hammer to bash another man over the head.

Police will allege the 45-year-old accused attacked a 35-year-old man at a Tarampa residence about 2.30am yesterday.

The injured man ran from the scene and sought help at a nearby residence on Litzows Rd.

He was later taken by ambulance to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where his condition was initially listed as serious.

He underwent scans to check for skull fractures.

It was later reported that the man's injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said the men were known to each other and were socialising together before a disagreement triggered the alleged assault.

Detectives from the Ipswich CIB started investigations early yesterday, laying charges by early afternoon.

The accused man, a 45-year-old from Tarampa in the Lockyer Valley, is charged with committing an act intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.
