Mackay man, 55, dies in overnight "altercation"

UPDATE 1pm: 

THE 55-year-old Mackay man who died at his Milton St home this morning had minor injuries according to detective inspector Nikki Colfs.

"In relation to any injuries he sustained they were very minor injuries," Mackay Crime and Support Services det insp Colfs told the media today.

"At this stage we are treating the death as suspicious."

"There is a 35-year-old male assisting police with enquiries."

 "At this stage you can imagine the family is grieving the loss of the 55-year-old man."

Forensic investigators seized a lot of clothes; there has been no suggestion that there was a weapon involved.

She said there were three witnesses assisting police and statements were being taken down by police.

"The wife of the deceased was present," she said.  

EARLIER midday:

A 55-year-old Mackay man died at a Milton St address following an altercation in the early hours of Tuesday morning. 

Mackay Crime and Supports Services Detective Inspector Nikki Colfs said police were speaking with a family member of the man in regards to the investigation.

She said no charges had been laid and police were still investigating the cause of the man's death.

EARLIER 10.10am: 

MACKAY Police Criminal Investigation Branch Nikki Colfs will address the media at 11.30 this morning regarding the death of a man outside a Milton St unit this morning. 

Paramedics were called to the scene just after midnight with reports of someone who was unconscious at the scene. 

Paramedics tried CPR on the man but he died outside the unit. 

Police has not yet released the age or circumstances surround his death but it has been described as suspicious. 

EARLIER 8.50am: 

THE crime scene on Milton St in Mackay, where are man died overnight has been closed down by police. 

A little after 8am the last two forensic investigators left the site where a man was found dead outside a unit. 

Police were called to the scene at 12.45am and have stated a man is helping with the investigation. 

Police will be releasing a statement soon and holding a press conference later this morning. 

EARLIER 7.45am: 

THERE are no fewer than nine police officers including detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch on the scene of where a man has died in Mackay overnight.   

Forensic investigators are still taking photos of residence where police were called to at 12.45 am.   

On arrival they found a man dead at the Milton St address.   

A neighbour said she didn't hear anything last night and didn't know anything had happened until she saw the news this morning on social media.

UPDATE 5.45am:

THE undertakers are currently on the scene and two of them are helping the police forensic investigators with a body of a man who has died in Mackay early Tuesday morning. 

Police were called to the Milton St address opposite the Showgrounds at 12.45am where they found a man dead outside the residence. 

Police have set up a crime scene and the undertakers are about to take his body away. 

A taxi driver who lives in the complex has been waiting from the early hours to drive his taxi out from the complex.

There is another police officer supervising the area. 


Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man in Mackay early this morning.

Around 12.45am police attended an address on Milton Street following reports of a disturbance. 

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male outside the residence. 

A crime scene has been established and investigations are continuing to determine the cause of death.

A man is understood to be assisting police with their investigations.
