Man drowns in surf at Yaroomba

A MAN has died after he became stuck in a rip at Yaroomba Beach on Saturday night.

The 36-year-old Yaroomba man was pulled from the surf about 6.30pm by another surfer.

Witnesses and paramedics tried to resuscitate him for more than an hour, but he died on the scene about 7.30pm.

A police spokesman said swimmers at the beach noticed the man in trouble in the rip, when they swam out to check on him they noticed he was face down in the water and called for help.

The spokesman said the surfer who helped him to shore rolled him onto a surf board and swam him back to the beach.

Several witnesses tried performing CPR on the man at the beach until paramedics arrived.
