Man cops fine for smashing ex's car with baseball bat

A SCORNED ex has used a baseball bat to smash up his former girlfriend's car.

Greg Anthony Bland, 30, was fined $400 and ordered to pay $809.87 restitution in Ipswich Magistrates Court after he pleaded guilty to wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Brad Dick said Bland drove to a Gatton address where his ex-girlfriend was at on March 3. Without breaking stride, Bland got out of his car and began smashing the woman's vehicle with the bat before driving away.

When asked by Magistrate Deborah Vasta why he committed the offence, Bland said "he'd rather not talk about it".

Ms Vasta said the circumstances were unusual because Bland had never been in trouble with the law before.

"You've obviously lost your temper in a big way," she said.

No convictions were recorded.
