Man charged with strangulation after police lock down

A MAN who prompted a police lockdown in North Queensland on the weekend has been charged with strangling a woman, along with five other crimes.

According to a police statement, the strangulation was "associated with domestic violence".

He is also being charged with assault causing bodily harm, and two breaches of a domestic violence order.

The man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after police had earlier cordoned off his home as they responded to claims the man was armed.

The man surrendered to police at 1.20pm and was arrested.

Police later found drugs and a drug-using equipment, the details of which have not been released.

Police will allege a 20-year-old woman had been assaulted, suffering injuries to her face and arm.
