Man broke in next door, attempted sex: police

A LENNOX Head man who police allege broke into his neighbour's home and attempted to have sex with the woman remains on bail.

Police allege the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, broke into his next door neighbour's house between 10.10pm and 10.30pm on December 14.

Once inside it is alleged the man attempted to have sex with his neighbour without her consent.

The man was arrested by police early the next morning and taken to Ballina police station for questioning.

He was subsequently charged with aggravated break and enter and commit a serious indictable offence and attempted sexual intercourse without consent.

On Tuesday Lismore Local Court heard the brief of evidence in the case was still to be completed.

The court was told police were awaiting test results on DNA evidence obtained after the alleged attack.

Magistrate David Heilpern adjourned the man's matters until a date in March at Lismore Local Court.

An order is in place preventing the man, who is not residing at Lennox Head, from going within 1km of his neighbour's house.
