LIFESAVERS have pulled a man and child from the surf at Kings Beach this morning after a near-drowning.

The 44-year-old man and 8-year-old boy were plucked to safety by lifesavers at about 9.40am, after getting into difficulty at the popular southern Coast beach.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the pair was safe, conscious and breathing after the incident.

Surf Life Saving Queensland's Sunshine Coast regional manager Aaron Purchase said the duo had "swallowed a little bit of water" and were being taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital as a precaution.

He said it was "pretty messy and yucky" along most Coast beaches today and advised people today may not be the best day to hit the beach given the conditions.

He said there were no beach closures at this stage but lifesavers at each location would monitor conditions and if necessary, close beaches to the public.

Mr Purchase advised if anyone was still intent on heading to the beach for a swim, the best places would probably be north-facing Noosa and Mooloolaba today, as they will offer the most protection.
