Man, 22, charged with sexual assault at hostel

A MAN has been charged with the rape of a woman at a Childers backpacker hostel.

Bundaberg Police CIB Detective Sergeant David Tucker said the alleged offender was a 22-year-old Samoan national who was believed to be known to the victim.

Det Sgt Tucker said the alleged rape happened in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"It has occurred at a backpackers hostel," he said.

Det Sgt Tucker returned to Bundaberg late yesterday after charging the man with four offences surrounding the alleged rape.

"A Samoan national has been charged with one count of enter a dwelling with intent, one count of assault with intent to rape, one count of depravation of liberty, one count of rape and one count of sexual assault," Det Sgt Tucker said.

The man will appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates court this morning.
