WORK on the region's newest town is forging ahead, with two major projects starting construction.
Plainland Crossing in the Lockyer Valley is quickly becoming a large residential area, along with the development of shopping centres, schools and other businesses.
A new McDonalds is already under way and as of the start of this month, Bridgestone Tyres and a child care centre have started construction.
Both new projects are located in newly developed land, along the road opposite to the Woolworths supermarket, in the Plainland Town Centre at the entry to the Plainland Crossing residential estate.
Developers Maddison Ridge have also released the formal name of the new child care centre as Plainland Kindergarten and Child Care Centre.
The developers said it would be an 82 place centre, catering for children aged six weeks to school age. It will be a family owned and operated business with about 25 staff and is expected to be open in late 2017 or early 2018.
To celebrate the huge progress of the project, a Plainland Crossing Family Fun Day will be held this Sunday from 10am to 2pm in Barcoo Dr, Plainland.
It will be an opportunity to meet neighbours, local businesses and the developers.
It will also include a sausage sizzle, jumping castle and other activities for the kids.
