FEW people go faster than Ron “Mad” Laycock.

The inventor has added a powerful jet engine to the back of a truck, increasing its speed to 250kmh.

Mad's Blitz Jet Truck was on display both days of the Wide Bay Australia International Airshow and managed to draw quite the crowd.

The speedy truck caught everyone's attention as it sprinted down the runway.

“It took me about a year to build and get together and now I just take it around to shows,” Mr Laycock said.

As to what prompted him to fit the truck with a jet engine, he joked that it may be “because I drunk too much Bundaberg Rum”.

Not done with big engines yet, Mr Laycock has fitted the same type of 35,000hp engine to a motorbike.

“I'm not sure how fast it goes yet as it's still in the experimental phase,” he said, adding that has been working on the bike for about a year.
