A FAMILY-OWNED and operated Southern Downs business has sold to a national company.

Glenmar Fuels announced on Facebook and via a letter to customers that after 23 years in business it had sold to United Petroleum.

Glenmar, who have operated out of their depot in Allora since 1993 and had a client base of 2500, will be sorely missed in the region, with locals and customers taking to Facebook to offer their thanks and support.

After starting out as a contract carrier, Glenn & Margaret Hentschel launched GMF as a fully independent distributorship in 2002 after becoming disillusioned by the direction the large oil companies were beginning to take.

In 2012 having worked in the company for some 16 years, son in-law Justin Barton along with wife Gretta became official partners, insuring a long future for Glenmar Fuels as a locally owned and operated family business.
