Lockyer Valley shows Bush Spirit
LOCKYER Valley Regional Council scooped the Bush Spirit Award at Monday night's Tidy Towns Awards.
Mayor Steve Jones was pre-arranged to be a guest speaker at the event and said he was thrilled about the win.
The Bush Spirit Award is presented to small towns that typify the Australian spirit.
"The recovery efforts across the Lockyer Valley can only be described as heroic," Cr Jones said.
"It came as quite a shock because we didn't even nominate this year because so many of the Valley's towns were still recovering from the floods."
Cr Jones said the award reflected the flood victims' change in perspective as the recovery and rebuilding process continued.
This year is a special milestone for Keep Australia Beautiful, celebrating its 40th year in the state.
