Lockyer Valley man killed in crash near Laidley

A Lockyer Valley man has died after his car veered onto the wrong side of the road and into a tree near Laidley.

Just before 9am this morning emergency services were called to the single-vehicle accident on Rosewood-Laidley Rd, between Laidley and Grandchester.

Laidley police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Jim McDonald said the 89-year-old was the single occupant of the 2010 silver Great Wall X240 which had been travelling eastbound.

"He travelled onto the incorrect side of the road, off the road and collided with a large Eucalyptus," he said.

"We are relying on pathologist's reports to determine whether a medical condition may have been a contributing factor."

This is the second fatal accident and third serious accident to occur on the road in recent years.

A 65-year-old Laidley man was killed after he suffered a medical condition and was involved in a head on collision on November 5 last year.

On October 8, 2013 a 27-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after her car ran off the road.

Snr Sgt McDonald said although the accidents occurred within a short period of time, the engineering aspects of the road and environment were not contributing factors.

"On each occasion it was driver error or a medical condition," he said.
