Rain comes down, but no major damage for Toowoomba

UPDATE: All Toowoomba streets closed due to localised flooding are reopened after this morning's rain.

Motorists are still advised to drive with care due to heavy fog in some parts, particularly near the Range.

EARLIER: SEVERAL city streets have been closed this morning due to water flowing over the road.

Long St near the intersection of Mackenzie St, and the intersection of Mackenzie and South Sts were closed due to localised flooding of East Creek this morning.

At this stage they remain closed, but Toowoomba police said the situation was changing with the conditions.

"We've got closures going up and down," a spokesman said.

He said no tickets had been issued for motorists driving through floodwater.

Toowoomba has received about 22mm of rain since midnight, while Dalby had an overnight total of nearly 38mm.

The SES received two call-outs in the Toowoomba region overnight, for a leaky roof at a South St property and minor flooding due to a blocked drain at a Highfields home.

The rain is expected to ease later this morning, as an upper trough over the south-east moves offshore.
