THE State Opposition has been labelled desperate with claims it is "begging" for money from a struggling, regional town after Burdekin LNP members received letters to donate towards a $170,000 election campaign fund for MP Dale Last.

It is understood the campaign letters were received around August 28 and read "We need campaign funds".

It then goes on to say, "The LNP Head Office advise that they consider we will have to spend $170,000 to give our member the best chance for re-election.

"Dale Last has been a hardworking member and his efforts and ability has been recognised by the Party Leader with him being given a shadow portfolio."

The letter was distributed from the Burdekin's local LNP branch.
