Legends lead 2014 Bluesfest line-up

SINGER songwriter and guitar legend John Mayer and the Dave Matthews Band are two big artists announced today as confirmed performers for Bluesfest's 25th anniversary in 2014.

Also on the list is soul queen Erykah Badu, and perennial favourites John Butler Trio and Michael Franti and Spearhead.

Festival director Peter Noble said John Mayer, a seven-time Grammy winner who has melded popular music with genuine blues to huge success, was "untouchable" on guitar and dubbed the confirmation of Mayer as a "coup".

Mayer has collaborated with a variety of artists from Kanye West to Keith Urban, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield and the Rolling Stones.

The Dave Matthews Band, incredibly popular on the North American touring circuit for more than a decade, will return to Bluesfest for the first time since 2005 for two performances.

"They are one of the top grossing, most in-demand bands in the world - as well as up there with the best of the best," Mr Noble said.

Erykah Badu will play Bluesfest for the first time in 2014 and is regarded as a great contemporary soul singer who fuses hip-hop and jazz and has been compared to Billie Holiday.

In true Byron style, she's described as a vegan, holistic healer, and community activist among other things.

Also announced on the line-up is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Iron and Wine, Devendra Banhart, Morcheeba, Gary Clark Jr, KT Tunstall, Allen Stone and Valerie June.
