Legally Blonde stars excited to entertain Brisbane audiences
LEGALLY Blonde stars Lucy Durack and David Harris are itching to get back on the stage when the show opens at QPAC on March 10.
After an extended summer break following the show's successful Sydney season, the Wicked co-stars will be delighting Brisbane audiences in the award-winning musical comedy.
"It's always interesting after a break; you have to see if you fit in the costumes," laughed Harris during a recent visit to the Sunshine Coast.
"Coming up to Brisbane is like a holiday. This is my sixth show I've done up here and it's always a fun time. The audiences make an event out of going to the theatre."
Durack was also full of praise for Queensland's theatre-goers.
"Brisbane audiences without a doubt are the best in Australia," she said.
"We're really excited and it's a really happy company."
Durack stars as the pink-loving California blonde Elle Woods, who follows her college sweetheart Warner to Harvard Law School in the hopes of winning him back.
Harris plays older law student Emmett, with whom Elle eventually falls in love.
Their co-star Rob Mills, who plays Warner, has been busy over the break filming for the upcoming new series of Celebrity Apprentice.
He's one of just three men Durack's character kisses during the show.
"My boyfriend doesn't love that part of it," she laughed.
Durack was recently honoured for her portrayal of Elle at the 2012 Sydney Theatre Award with the Judith Johnson Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.
Aside from wearing a revealing pink Playboy bunny costume, one of the biggest challenges of the show is working with the dogs that play canine stars Bruiser and Rufus.
"The two dogs that play Bruiser are really on top of the show now but at the very start they would run off stage and occasionally they wouldn't bark (when they were supposed to)," Durack said.
"And there was one night he started growling at someone in the audience."
Harris added" It keeps it fun for us. It makes it exciting when something goes wrong."
Also starring in the show are Cameron Daddo, Erika Heynatz and Helen Dallimore.
Legally Blonde The Musical opens at QPAC's Lyric Theatre on March 10 and runs through April 21. Tickets from $45.
