Learner driver blows more than triple and hits tree

A LEARNER driver who allegedly blew more than triple the legal limit is lucky to walk away uninjured after crashing into a tree late Thursday night. 

Hervey Bay police Senior Constable Jules Tyson said it's believed the 18-year-old man lost control of the vehicle and mounted a gutter while attempting to turn down St Joseph Dr in Uraween. 

The vehicle hit a tree just before 11pm.

Constable Tyson said the teenager blew an alleged 0.181, more than triple the legal blood alcohol limit. 

There was extensive damage to the vehicle and tyre marks on the footpath. 

The man is expected to appear in Hervey Bay Court on December 12, charged with drink driving.
