Dispute leads to Laidley man dead

A NANANGO man has been charged with the murder of 37-year-old Michael Tomsen of Laidley after a neighbourhood dispute ended in a fatal stabbing this week.

Police have charged 38-year-old Nanango man Stephen Doyle with Mr Tomsen's murder after an altercation outside a Fitzroy St home, in Nanango, shortly after 6pm on Saturday.

Kingaroy Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Detective Sergeant Jason Kitto said Mr Tomsen had been stabbed once with a kitchen knife in the right side of his chest.

Mr Tomsen was taken to Nanango Hospital but died prior to arrival.

Det Sgt Kitto said it was believed Mr Tomsen had been attending a family engagement party when the altercation with Doyle broke out.

Police said a number of people were initially involved in the altercation and Doyle was remanded in custody after appearing in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon charged with murder.

He is due to appear in the same court tomorrow.
