Labor: regions to lose out over ABC cuts

Mel McMillan

REGIONAL areas will lose the most from the ABC budget cuts, Labor senator Claire Moore says.

Speaking at a rally outside the ABC's South Bank offices, Ms Moore said the ABC could not properly serve Queensland without strong links throughout the state.

The Federal Government announced this week a $250 million budget cut to the ABC.

ABC managing director Mark Scott said the cut would result in significant job losses, which would be announced on Monday.

Rally organiser and Public Sector Union national president Michael Tull said most of the cuts would come into effect after the next election and the union would continue to campaign on the ABC's budget.
