Kookaburras to star in Hockey India League

A TOTAL of 24 players from the Kookaburras squad will appear in next year's Hockey India League after nine more Aussies were snapped up in the final round of bids.

West Australian Trent Mitton (pictured) was the most expensive, the Mumbai Magicians paying $63,375 for the midfielder/forward, while Jake Whetton was the cheapest, bought by the Punjab Warriors for $19,000.

New franchise the Kalinga Lancers picked up Kiel Brown, Russell Ford, Glenn Simpson, Aran Zalewski and Tristan Clemons, while Jason Wilson and Tristan White will suit up for the Delhi Waveriders.

Kookaburras assistant coach Graham Reid said playing in the HIL allowed the squad members to "commit more fully to the

Kookaburras program without the need to take on other work".

The competition will run for four weeks from January 23.
