Julia Gillard's ex-boyfriend fronts RC into union corruption

FORMER union official and Julia Gillard's ex-boyfriend Bruce Wilson has fronted the Royal Commission into union corruption, conceding that a year's worth of false invoices were sent to construction giant Theiss under the guise of an alleged slush fund association.

Under examination by Counsel assisting Jeremy Stoljar SC quizzed the former Australian Workers Union official on an association known as the Workplace Reform Fund.

The fund was apparently set up by Mr Wilson and union-bagman Ralph Blewitt.

On Thursday, Mr Wilson told the Commission the apparent slush fund invoiced Theiss for payment despite doing no work.

"But you say, do you, that Thiess was aware of that and was content to pay the association for that year, despite the fact that no work was being done?," asked Mr Stoljar.

"That's what I say," Mr Wilson responded.

The Commission has already heard claims Ms Gillard was handed a large sum of cash from Mr Wilson to pay for home renovations, claims denied by the former Prime Minister.

On Thursday, Mr Wilson struggled to remember what advice Ms Gillard gave as a lawyer to help set up the association.
